MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Alexander was maybe seven and Jesse six when the three of us were to stay home because their mom was to have the girls for doctor's appointment.
It was 9ish.

A little later Alexander asked me if I can make him eggs (over-easy).
I said yes.
I then put the pan, edible oil in it, lit and waited for a minute before breaking the egg with a flat laddle.
Exactly the same way folks back home do all their lives.
Piece of cake.

Well, not really.

Splat!!

My my, the yoke was spread all over the pan.
After spreading hot oil over it, there's the over-easy egg.
Just from the look of it, I knew my customer would be horrified.

So, I tried another one.

Plook!

The is even worse.

I'm not eating that!

That's what he said when I handed him the plate.
I think I saw it coming.
When their mom makes eggs, they are so perfect that they don't seem to look real anymore.

I apologized and offered him alternative like toast or nuggets while we wait for their return from the doctor's office.

What time are they coming back?, he asked.
I said, could be 11:30 or 12:00.
He didn't say anything.
But a little later, I saw him in my peripheral eat the eggs.

He must have been starving that he ate the eggs.
I felt terribly bad.
It would have been like, "My Lolo used to make the best eggs when I was little".

Hence..
