MIRACLE ON THE FOURTH DAY

Holy Thursday, before noon, while minding the "Hanging Garden of Babylon", there was a road-side commotion below.
Curious, I went out to see what was it about.
I was shocked and angry when I saw Higante (his human mom calls him Mahalo after a cat our grandkids have back in Jersey) lying there, I thought dead, after being hit by a motorcycle.

This guy, who looks like a Maine Coon breed, was born here, inside the house with three others.
Two didn't make it to their first birthday.
The other one, pregnant, for some reason, left the house and never returned.

For couple of years now, Higante has been a family, with his mom, two siblings (born recently) and Ginger (it's the color, he's a he), another aghop.

I was about to pick his dead body up and give him a decent burial when he leaped and sprinted to the adjacent vacant lot.
When I made my approach, he ran away, saw a wooden platform, jumped into the top of the concrete fence and kept running.

The sight was awful. He was limping and many times almost fell from it - he fell eventually on the other side of the fence.
Went straight there but no one was home.

I posted on FB hoping someone out there helps me mount a "search and rescue" operation.
Animal lovers responded and not too long after, the neighbours were home.
We searched their place inside and out, he wasn't there.
Again, I put a post on FB. This time asking the neighbours to keep their eyes open for a badly-hurt cat.

Then Friday came, Saturday, Sunday...
Just when I thought I should be used to having one-less mouth to feed...
There he was, several pounds lighter and now a CWD.
