ALORAN, a perspective COMING OF AGE |
1960s was the decade my boyhood friends and I came to age. Lot of changes were happening at the same time. Among them: learning to groom ourselves; bathe daily, and for many of us, with sabon-humot and shampoo. Skin lotion was a luxury, but cheap baby oil did the trick. Palmolive, Cashmere Bouquet, Camay, Lux were the leading brands. Fast forward a little bit, Hino de Pravia, very expensive, though you can have the generic version for free, absolutely free, Hino-waman (borrowed). Many of us were just contented with Perla, Acme or Argo, they're good deodorant too. Cheap pomade was easy, PAL, Beatles at 5 centavos a small sachet, Le Conte at 15 centavos for a sachet of the same size. If you can spare extra, you can level-up with Souvenir, Caronia, though none beats Tancho Tique. And there was this "pamada, marka pomade", hahaha. For perfume, X7 was quite popular. Most obvious of these changes was we started staring rather than just looking at the opposite gender. |
